Sadistic Displeasure

What does one do
When a touch that had hitherto been healing
Suddenly begins to hurt…to harm
What does one do
When an embrace that was known to be so loving
Ceases any longer to be warm

What does one do when the very person
Closest to one’s heart
Begins to play with her life
Tearing her future apart

What does one do when all that trust
All that faith goes unacknowledged…

Hurt, withdrawn, distrustful
Never to trust again
She grew up, living in her shell
Never once sharing her pain

Deep within her, mortified,
The pain remained unknown
And with every passing day of her life
She continued to mourn

The loss of a steady loving figure
And the games that had been played with her
The misery and loneliness that had been with her
For as long as she could remember.

All her life she continued
To carry the burden of blame
What noone else knew was that
She was engulfed with guilt and shame.

Till today she lives
A cold, distant life alone
And sometimes…just sometimes…
Wonders if her heart has turned to stone…
